Dear Students,

It is always a pleasure to welcome the fresh batch of youth, exuberant and eager to learn, joining this University. Here is the opportunity for you to carve out a brighter career for yourself by making full use of the facilities provided at the University.

The University has geared up all its resources to equip you with knowledge and skills necessary to face the challenges of present Century. The curricula of all degree programs have been updated particularly in Information Technology related disciplines and in Business Administration and Commerce, to make them demand oriented. Among the recently introduced programs are Master degree program in Law and that of Rural Development Studies. In the context of growth of a welfare state, 4-year degree studies in Rural Development are implement.

The present enrollment in the University is above 16000 and the University is prepared to accept more to fulfill its obligation towards community and society at large.

The University offers Bachelor Degree programs in 43 disciplines, in addition to Master, M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees. The Bachelor degree programs in all teaching departments under the Faculties of Natural Sciences, Social Sciences as well as Business Administration & Commerce are now of 4-year duration, bringing them on par with international system. It would provide broad- based sound education and widen your vision. This change would enhance credibility and acceptably of our degrees in the international job market. At home also the Government of Pakistan recognizes the 4-yr. Bachelor degree holders eligible for BPS-17 posts where the earlier requirement was Master’s degree.

The University has expanded the scope of Evening programs and has also introduced Master’s degree in Telemedicine &
e-Health where there is ever increasing demand of skilled manpower. This would be your passport to a brighter career. It has also necessitated publication of separate Catalogue covering Evening Program, offered for 2007 session.

Higher Education is now sine qua non for progress and it has acquired global aspect. To ensure that all meritorious students get the chance to pursue higher studies, the HEC has announced a scheme of scholarship, as incentive, open to all deserving students joining the University. Make use of this offer; details are on page 12 of this Catalogue. Your University has also taken all necessary steps to provide you access to internet at negligible cost so that you may augment your learning through this globalize higher education network. It is now up to you to make full use of the opportunities offered and equip yourself to face the challenges ahead, and to make yourself useful to the community and help create a society that is progressive, tolerant, pluralistic, prosperous and just and that values ethics, human dignity & spirit of inquiry.
