HYDERABAD: A total of 875 candidates received bachelors and masters degrees while 26 candidates their PhD and 16 M.Phil degrees in various disciplines at the Convocation-2008 of the University of Sindh organised on Tuesday. Also, 84 silver and 24 gold medals were awarded.
Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, who presided over the occasion, conferred degrees upon the graduating candidates and decorated them with silver and gold medals.In all, 388 female and 379 male candidates received their degrees.
Forty-four female and 40 male candidates received silver medals. Among the top gold medallists were 15 female and two male candidates. Seven special gold medals were awarded to meritorious candidates, which includes three Allama II Kazi Gold Medals awarded to Nasreen Kousar Arain (MBA), Muhammad Waqas Qureshi (Physics) and Hina Malik in Art Faculty.
Sindh University alumni Gold Medal was also awarded to Nasreen Kousar of MBA while Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi gold medals were awarded to Saran Dars in Faculty of Arts and Ayaz Ali Leghari in Islamic Culture while Ali Bux Channa Gold Medal was awarded to Fatima Qureshi (Computer Science). Seventeen gold medals went to facultys top candidates including Hina Malik (Urdu), Hemoon Kalani (Sindhi), Anum Naseem Boobak, (BBA), Nasreen Kousar (MBA), Maria Ameen Mughal (MBA Pass), Miss Asma Bhatti (MEd evening), Ghazala Syed (MA), Bushra Zai (MEd evening), Talibuddin (BA Hons, Muslim History), Ayaz Ali Laghari (MA Hons, Muslim History), Sadia Talpur (MSc Botany), Maryam Memon (BS Mathematics), Ghazal Saleem (Pharm-D), Afshan Solangi (MA Women Development), Azhar Ali Chachar (MPA evening), Farooq Ahmed (MLIS) and Anisa Gul Bhatti (MSc Psychology).
Those who received PhD degrees were Abdul Niaz, Ghulam Zuhra Memon, Jameel Rehman Memon, Kulsoom Abbasi, Muhammad Balal Arain, Nusrat Begum Jalabni, Raja Adil Sarfraz Rajput and Tahir Rafique in Analytical Chemistry; Ashar Ali Shaikh, Biotechnology; Muhammad Athar Khan, Botany; Liaquat Ali Zardari, Chemistry; Muhammad Aslam Chemistry; Khalid Hussain Lashari, Freshwater Biology and Fisheries; Hidayatullah Mahesar, Physiology; Muhammad Khan Solangi, English; Muhammad Ishaq Jamil, Sindhi; Nisar Ahmed and Rabia Sarfraz, Urdu; Abida Siddiqui, Education; Abdul Rasheed Laghari and Yousif Tahir in Islamic Culture; Muhammad Ali Tahir and Sobho Khan Jamali in Economics and Junaid Akbar Shah in Development Studies.
